ABOUT GIREESH VENGARA

Gireesh Vengara is a Bangalore based creative consultant, cartoonist, artist, creative consultant, painter and sulk-er who is generally annoyed with everything that’s wrong with the world. But when he’s done with sulking, he draws his pen out of its scabbard and goes stroke, stroke, slash, slash on a piece of paper and in a jiffy, a carton is ready. In his ideal world, there are no words. Only lines and strokes and colors and shapes.Those become his tools, his playthings, his weapons. Then you get paintings that are full of life, like the “Energy andPower” serie he’s working on now. His first cartoon appeared in Malayala Manorama and since then Kesari, Mangalam, Trial, Paakanaar, Chintana and many more magazines and newspapers have carried them. He was the political cartoonist for Vijay Times for quite some time. He has won the Best Cartoonist Award in 1988 from the Kerala Cartoon Academy and Brushman School of Fine Arts and then again in 1989 and 1990 from the Kerala Cartoon Academy. He won the Kerala Press Academy Award for cartoons in 1989, the ‘Hasyavedi’, Kozhikode award for cartoons and the Public relations Department award for cartoons in connection with the Tourism Week Celebration of 1989. Kerala Lalit Kala Academy has selected his cartoon for their oncoming exhibition.

The Indian Institute of Cartoonists is organising Strokes and Slashes—an exhibition of the works of Mr. Gireesh Vengara a well known cartoonist at the Indian Cartoon Gallery. Mr. Balan Nambiar well known artist and sculptor will be inaugurating the exhibition.
